You may not know Orry-Kelly by name, but you know the films and the actresses he dressed from Bette Davis in JEZEBEL and NOW, VOYAGER to Barbara Stanwyck in BABYFACE, Delores Del Rio in BIRD OF PARADISE, to later celebrities like Rosalind Russell, Natalie Wood, and Jane Fonda along with three Academy Awards for LES GIRLS, AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, and SOME LIKE IT HOT not to mention Busby Berkeley's major musicals. Australian director Gillian Armstrong (MY BRILLIANT CAREER) tells the story of a creative and sensitive young man from a small Australian town who found artistic and sexual freedom in prohibition-era New York with his first love Archibald Leach (who went on to become a famous actor under a different name) and cross-country as the costume designer of choice for Warner Brothers. The film explores his life on the big screen and his private life, and by extension what it was like to be gay during Hollywood's golden age.
