MGM plans OPERATION BIKINI (review)

Tab Hunter, Scott Brady, Frankie Avalon, and Jody McCrea head to the South Pacific to destroy a sunken submarine in AIP's WWII drama OPERATION BIKINI (which is definitely NOT part of AIP's BEACH PARTY series).

MGM MOD spies on Talia Shire through WINDOWS

Long unavailable after its theatrical release and never released on video, GODFATHER cinematographer Gordon Willis' sole directorial effort WINDOWS has made its digital bow courtesy of MGM's manufactured-on-demand DVD-R program.  Emily (Talia Shire, ROCKY) is assaulted in her apartment and quickly moves into a new apartment building.  This does not sit well with her obsessive neighbor Andrea (Elizabeth Ashley, COMA) who starts spying on her and terrorizing her and killing anyone who gets between her and her object of desire.  Joseph Cortese also stars.  Music by Ennio Morricone.

Right out of Weird War Tales: ZONE TROOPERS (review)

Before Tim Thomerson made cult movie fame in TRANCERS, Thomerson, writer/director Danny Bilson, producer Paul DiMeo, and executive producer Charles Band of Empire Pictures made ZONE TROOPERS.  American soldiers stationed in the middle of nowhere in Italy barely survive a Nazi attack and get lost in the woods where they discover a crashed spaceship.  An alien on the loose may be the least of their problems when the Nazis are hunting them and alien technology to use to win the war!  Timothy Van Patten (CLASS OF 1984), Art LaFleur (THE WRONG GUYS), and Biff Manard (TRANCERS) also star.

Jack Palance in KILL A DRAGON (review)

When a shipload of Nitra2 explosives wash up on a small island off Hong Kong, the islanders decide to sell them on the black market to better their circumstances.  The islanders approach salvager Rick Masters (Jack Palance) and his  rag-tag crew to get the cargo safely to Hong Kong for a cut of the profits.  Unfortunately, the cargo's sadistic owner Patray (Fernando Lamas) will stop at nothing to get it back. Can Rick's "St. George" slay Patray the dragon?

MGM's ACT OF VENGEANCE (review)

When she is assaulted by a hockey-masked rapist, Jo Ann Harris (THE BEGUILED) joins his other victims and forms a "rape squad" who set out to take care of those for whom "no means yes."  An R-rated AIP released directed by Bob Keljchan, who also gave us COUNT YORGA VAMPIRE, THE RETURN OF COUNT YORGA, and SCREAM BLACULA SCREAM.

Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero seek A QUIET PLACE IN THE COUNTRY (review)

Vanessa Redgrave (BLOW-UP) and Franco Nero (DJANGO) are lovers caught up in a ghostly mystery in A QUIET PLACE IN THE COUNTRY (Un Tranquillo Posto di Campagna).  Artist Leonardo (Nero) is cracking up under the pressures of city life and wants to get away.  Instead of the posh villa that his lover/art dealer Flavia (Redgrave) has found for him, Leonardo is strangely drawn to a crumbling old house once frequented by a promiscuous young countess who had her way with all of the men in the nearby village before she was mysteriously killed.  The countess becomes an obsession for Leonardo, but when Flavia comes to stay, it appears that the countess' ghost does not care for living competition.  Directed by Elio Petri (THE 10TH VICTIM).  See the review link below:

MGM digs up Edgar Allan Poe's BURIED ALIVE on MOD DVD (review)

I've reviewed MGM's MOD (manufactured-on-demand) DVD-R of Edgar Allan Poe's BURIED ALIVE over at DVD Drive-In (review link HERE).  Former Playboy Playmate Karen Witter (THE VINEYARD) plays a psych grad who has taken a job teaching at the Ravenscroft School for troubled girls.  Her boss (Robert Vaughn, THE STATUE) does not seem too concerned that girls have a habit of mysteriously disappearing (maybe he isn't aware that a psycho in a Nixon mask is abducting them and walling them up in the corridors of the former insane asylum beneath the school grounds?).  Soon she's hallucinating breathing walls, ant attacks, and gratuitous raving John Carradine (THE HOWLING) appearances.  Donald Pleasance (HALLOWEEN) pops up as his own kooky self, along with porn-queen Ginger Lynn Allen, horror effects artist/actor William Butler (the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD remake, LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III), and Nia Long (STIGMATA) - who would probably like to forget this early credit.  Jess Franco editor Gerard Kikoine (EDGE OF SANITY) directs.
