Simply Media's Terry and June are HAPPY EVER AFTER (Review)

HUGH AND I's Terry Scott and ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS' June Whitfield are alone for the first time in twenty years with all three children having left home.  They barely have time to experience Empty Nest Syndrome when June's dotty seventy-year old Aunt Lucy and her chatty Myna bird Gunga Din move in.  As the couple try to adopt each others' interests, they find themselves growing apart, and attempts to share new interests usually wind up with Terry getting in way over his head in this five season series.

Simply Media plots with EMPRESSES IN THE PALACE (review)

Intrigue in the Forbidden City's imperial harem abounds in eighteenth century China in this lavish but juicy soap opera as a reluctant new courtesan learns to maneuver her way through the various levels of society within the kingdom and survive backstabbing plots, attempted murders, and the machinations of others for advancement.  Seventy-six forty-five minute episodes have been edited down to six ninety-minute episodes for English audiences.

Simply Media reunites MELVIN AND HOWARD (review)

Paul Le Mat, Jason Robards, and Mary Steenburgen star in this comic drama from Jonathan Demme.  Melvin Dummar goes from factory worker to milkman to media punchline when he is named as one of the benefactors of a mysterious will attributed to the late Howard Hughes who he claims to have once encountered in the middle of the Nevada desert.  Steenburgen won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film and Bo Goldman won for Best Screenplay.

Simply Media promises NEVER SAY GOODBYE (review)

Rock Hudson, Cornell Borchers, George Sanders, Shelly Fabares, and an uncredited Clint Eastwood appear in this "women's picture" directed by Jerry Hopper with additional work by an uncredited Douglas Sirk.  When a doctor discovers that the wife and mother of his child that he believes was dead is in fact alive, he not only must seek her forgiveness for the event that tore them apart but also must reunite her with the daughter who has grown up without her and become jealously possessive of her father.

Simply Media attends a MASQUERADE IN MEXICO (review)

Dorothy Lamour stars in this remake of the Claudette Colbert vehicle MIDNIGHT as a showgirl who gets stranded in Mexico after her fiance tricks her into transporting a stolen diamond across the border.  She soon finds herself impersonating a countess in the scheme of an American who wants to lure an amorous bullfighter away from his wife.  Patric Knowles, Ann Dvorak, Natalie Schafer, George Rigaud, and Arturo de Córdova also star.

Simply Media is GOING BERSERK (Review)

SCTV's John Candy, Joe Flaherty, and Eugene Levy reunite in this bizarre early eighties Canadian/American comedy.  John runs a limo service with his buddy Chick and is about to marry into the family of a wealthy senator and presidential candidate.  When the senator goes after a scam religion, its maniacal head brainwashes John in order to kill him at the wedding.  Ernie Hudson and Dixie Carter also star.

Simply Media bets on THE LADY GAMBLES (review)

Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Preston, Edith Barrett, and Stephen McNally star in this obscure film noir.  On honeymoon in Las Vegas while her husband works on a news story, Joan Booth becomes addicted to gambling and enters a downward spiral into illegal activities and heartbreak.  A young Tony Curtis makes one of his first appearances here as a bell boy.
