Acorn Media investigates DALGLIESH (review)

P.D. James' popular detective Adam Dalgliesh comes back to the small screen in three two-part cases.  In SHROUD FOR A NIGHTINGALE, Dalgliesh investigates the mysterious death of a trainee nurse in front of all of her colleagues.  In THE BLACK TOWER, Dalgliesh begins to suspect that three deaths of elderly people were most unnatural.  In A TASTE FOR DEATH, the bodies of a tramp and a disgraced politician are discovered in a church, and a latchkey child may hold the key to the mystery.

Acorn Media mixes up LOVE, LIES AND RECORDS (review)

When Kate Dickinson is promoted to senior registrar of the Leeds Office of Births, Marriages, and Deaths, she is on top of the world until jealous co-worker Judy starts blackmailing her over a dalliance with handsome Rick, her daughter starts acting out, her stepson and his girlfriend move into the house, and co-worker James starts wearing women's clothes and wants to be called Jamie.  Other intrigue arrises as her long-term boyfriend Rob investigates a case of human trafficking that could be trying to utilize the office for sham marriages and a woman's body is pulled out of the river in this soapy comedy from Kay Mellor.

Acorn Media investigates DETECTORISTS: SERIES 3 (Review)

Best friends Lance and Andy return to their metal detecting hunting grounds for a third series and face new challenges.  Not only does Andy hate his job, he is keeping secrets from his wife and mother-in-law while Lance is trying to sort out his personal life with his girlfriend, his daughter, and his ex.  Additionally, they discover that they stand to lose their allotted land to a solar energy farm just as they discover what seems to be a Roman burial site.

Acorn Media closes the case of INSPECTOR GEORGE GENTLY: SERIES EIGHT (Review)

The INSPECTOR GEORGE GENTLY series comes to a close with two final cases set in the socially turbulent 1970's.  In the first, Gently and Bacchus butt heads when the discovery of a body means revisiting a case Bacchus worked on years before in which the killer may have been wrongfully convicted.  In the second and last, Gently investigates the cold-case of a murdered scab worker while Bacchus and Coles investigate the more recent murder of a scab worker during a labor and union dispute, both of which are linked by a politician who could very well be running the new government.

Acorn Media searches for THE MISSING: SERIES 2 (review)

In series two of THE MISSING, the reappearance of a British girl missing for eleven years in a German town becomes even more urgent when it appears that she may be the key to finding a girl that disappeared a year before her.  Julien Baptiste comes out of retirement again to solve the case but finds opposition from the girl's parents and brother who want to shield her from further trauma.  When tragedy strikes, the parents start to wonder whether the girl they have welcomed back into their house really is their daughter.  David Morrissey, Keeley Hawes, and Tcheky Karyo star.

Professional forensic cleaners and amateur detectives Charlie and Nicola Buchanan and their long-suffering niece Jess clean up crime scenes and solve murders while their detective pal Peter takes the credit.  Charlie uses his wits and his encyclopedic knowledge while impulsive Nicola uses her intuition to get under the skin of suspects but find themselves sifting through plenty of dirty laundry along the way.

Image Entertainment rises with the DAY OF THE MUMMY (review)

Danny Glover (LETHAL WEAPON) and William McNamara (COPYCAT) star in this Egyptian adventure.  A billionaire collector hires an unscrupulous archaeologist to join an expedition to find the crypt of a cursed king who was buried with a precious diamond.  The team discover that the diamond's owner has woken up on the wrong side of the bed and is hungry for sacrifices.
