I've reviewed MGM's MOD (manufactured-on-demand) DVD-R of Edgar Allan Poe's
BURIED ALIVE over at DVD Drive-In (review link
HERE). Former Playboy Playmate Karen Witter
(THE VINEYARD) plays a psych grad who has taken a job teaching at the Ravenscroft School for troubled girls. Her boss (Robert Vaughn,
THE STATUE) does not seem too concerned that girls have a habit of mysteriously disappearing (maybe he isn't aware that a psycho in a Nixon mask is abducting them and walling them up in the corridors of the former insane asylum beneath the school grounds?). Soon she's hallucinating breathing walls, ant attacks, and gratuitous raving John Carradine
(THE HOWLING) appearances. Donald Pleasance
(HALLOWEEN) pops up as his own kooky self, along with porn-queen Ginger Lynn Allen, horror effects artist/actor William Butler
(the
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD remake,
LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III), and Nia Long
(STIGMATA) - who would probably like to forget this early credit. Jess Franco editor Gerard Kikoine (EDGE OF SANITY) directs.
