The daughter of a wealthy landowner, Jeanne is thrust into adulthood when she marries a charming but penniless aristocrat and condemned to heartache after heartache. When her son is born, she is eager to raise him not to become like his father only to be reminded just how little she can control as a woman in nineteenth century rural France. Based on the first novel by Guy de Maupassant.
