Second Run imagines MY 20TH CENTURY (review)

With her graduate short film banned by the Communist government, Hungarian female director Ildiko Enyedi had nothing to lose when she developed and sought funding for an ambitious and sprawling feminist period piece as her feature film debut.  In MY 20TH CENTURY, twins Lili and Dora are born in 1880 at the moment Thomas Edison unveils the light bulb to the world and are separated soon after only to come face to face at the turn of the century leading radically different lives as the film examines the changes wrought by modernism on the lives of its female characters.
