Peter Tinswood's comic novels about the Brandon family came to British airwaves in four seasons of hilarity between 1975 and 1979. When his wife falls off a double decker and dies, Uncle Mort is looking forward to a life of bowling and nights at the pub until his sister Annie insists he move in with her, her husband Les, and son Carter. While Annie and Carter's fiancee Pat conspire and bully Carter into a trip down the aisle, Mort and Les are pushing him in the direction of saucy Linda Preston. Over the course of four series, the family experiences upheavals including the men being laid off and the women going to work, Mort's joy at discovering he has a terminal illness (and Annie insisting he have his funeral while he's still alive to enjoy it), Pat and Carter's marital strife, and Les' newfound obsession with cleaning and cooking. A young Stephen Rea (THE CRYING GAME) played Carter for the first two series.
