Approaching middle age, Los Angeles graphic artist Dean finds the worsening of his lazy eye less distracting to his work than a certain world weary dissatisfaction with life. When he receives an email out of the blue from the first love of his life, he yearns to relive that short New York summer in a reunion out in the Joshua Tree desert. Dean and Alex resume their passionate affair but their attempts to reconnect bring out revelations about just how much things have changed in life for them and the impossibility of recapturing the past.
