Saturn Productions goes WHERE TIME BEGAN and has an ENCOUNTER WITH THE UNKNOWN (review)

Saturn Productions brings us another EXPLOITATION CINEMA duo of Saturday Matinee classics with WHERE TIME BEGAN/ENCOUNTER WITH THE UNKNOWN.  Narrated by Rod Serling, ENCOUNTER WITH THE UNKNOWN is a trio of eerie tales.  A grieving mother curses the three fratboys who caused the accidental death of her son, a young boy discovers the entrance to a subterranean cave from which monstrous noises emanate, and a motorist picks up a ghostly girl on a bridge.  In WHERE TIME BEGAN, a professor, his niece, and her suitor join an explorer and a shepherd on a FABULOUS JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.  Directed by Juan Picquer Simon (PIECES, SLUGS), WHERE TIME BEGAN stars Kenneth More (A NIGHT TO REMEMBER), Frank Brana (RETURN OF THE EVIL DEAD), and Jack Taylor (GHOST GALLEON).

Inception has EVIL THINGS in August! (review)


In the tradition of QUARANTINE and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY comes Dominic Perez's EVIL THINGS (on NTSC Region 1 DVD on August 9, 2011).  Cassy, Mark, Tanya, Leo, and Miriam head out to a remote country home in the snowy wilderness for Miriam's 21st birthday party.  48 hours later, they have all vanished, and the only clue is what was captured on Leo's video camera.

Icon Entertainment unleashes THE PACK on DVD (review)

On July 4, Icon Entertainment will release Franck Richard's THE PACK (La Meute) on Region 2 PAL DVD.  Emilie Dequenne (FISSURES) and hitcher Benjamin Biolay take a wrong turn and wind up at La Spack, the backwoods diner where proprietor Yolande Moreau (MICMACS) serves up unsuspecting motorists to "The Pack."  Part torture porn, part monster siege, all gory!

Another WOMEN IN PRISON TRIPLE FEATURE review (DVDBeaver)

This July, Panik House returns with a 2-disc triple feature of women in prison!  Linda Blair (HELL NIGHT) stars in CHAINED HEAT (presented for the first time uncut on US DVD) as a woman sentenced to 18 months in a federal prison run by a sadistic warden (John Vernon, ANIMAL HOUSE).  Sybil Danning, Stella Stevens, and Tamara Dobson also star.  Linda Blair returns in RED HEAT as a tourist wrongly confined to an East German prison.  This time EMMANUELLE's Sylvia Kristel is the warden.  Finally, in JUNGLE WARRIORS, Sybil Danning and a group of models face off against a jungle drug lord (Paul Smith, PIECES).  Marjoe Gortner (BOBBIE JO AND THE OUTLAW) and John Vernon also star.

Arrow Video TENEBRAE (review)

On June 28, Arrow Video will release a Region 0 PAL DVD and Region Free Blu-Ray of Dario Argento's 1982 return to the giallo TENEBRAE.  Anthony Franciosa (JULIE DARLING) plays a crime writer promoting his book in Rome when a killer starts slicing and dicing women in a bizarre tribute to the writer.  Daria Nicolodi (INFERNO), Giuliano Gemma (DAY OF ANGER), John Saxon (NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET), Carola Stagnaro (OPERA), Mirella D'Angelo (CALIGULA), and Christian Boromeo (HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK) star.  SUSPRIA's cinematographer Luciano Tovoli lends TENEBAE a very different look and Goblin members Claudio Simonetti, Fabio Pignatelli, and Massimo Morante contribute the memorable score.

Severin Films has a BLOODY BIRTHDAY (2nd review)

On June 28, Severin Films will release Ed Hunt's killer kid flick BLOODY BIRTHDAY (1981) starring Lori Lethin (RETURN TO HORROR HIGH), Elizabeth Hoy (HOSPITAL MASSACRE), Billy Jacoby (SUPERSTITION), Andy Freeman (BEYOND WITCH MOUNTAIN), Susan Strasberg (THE MANITOU), Jose Ferrer (THE BEING), and Julie Brown (CLUELESS).  Joe Penny (TV's JAKE AND THE FATMAN) and Michael Dudikoff (AMERICAN NINJA) also star.  Julie Brown pops her top in this bit of eighties drive-in horror.  I have reviewed Severin's DVD (and compared it with the old VCI release) over at DVD Drive-In.

Severin Films has NIGHTMARES (2nd review)

On June 28, Severin Films will release John Lamond's Australian slasher film NIGHTMARES (released in the US as STAGE FRIGHT, not to be confused with the Italian Michele Soavi slasher).  Jenny Neumann (HELL NIGHT) plays an American actress auditioning for a play in Australia.  Soon the cast and crew are being stalked by a killer wielding shards of glass.  Max Phipps (THIRST), Gary Sweet (TV's BLUE MURDER), and Briony Behets (LONG WEEKEND) co-star.

Severin is having THE BABY (review)

On June 28, Severin Films will release Ted Post's disturbing PG psychodrama THE BABY on DVD.  It has already come out once from Image Entertainment, but Severin's edition is a new 16:9 anamorphic transfer with audio interviews with the film's director and star.  I have reviewed Severin's DVD over at DVDBeaver (and compared it to the fullscreen edition from Geneon).  Anjanette Comer (DEAD OF NIGHT), Ruth Roman (STRANGERS ON A TRAIN), Michael Pataki (GRAVE OF THE VAMPIRE), and Marianna HILL (MESSIAH OF EVIL) star.

Linda Blair is badass (again) in SAVAGE STREETS (review)

On June 20, Arrow Video will release Danny Steinmann's SAVAGE STREETS on DVD, uncut for the first time in the UK.  Linda Blair (CHAINED HEAT) plays Brenda, the leader of the girl gang The Satins who cross paths with the rape-happy guy group The Scars.  When The Scars beat and rape Brenda's sister (Linnea Quigley, NIGHT OF THE DEMONS), Brenda picks up the crossbow (and other deadly weapons) and hunts The Scars down one by one.  Arrow's DVD features a ton of extras including three commentaries, five interviews, the film's theatrical trailer, and a collector's booklet.

EATERS: RISE OF THE DEAD (reviewed)

On June 13th, Chelsea Films will release the Uwe Boll-presented Italian zombie gore film EATERS: RISE OF THE DEAD on Region 2 PAL DVD in the UK.  The world has been devastated by a global outbreak caused by a terrorist called The Plague Spreader.  The victims have all become zombies.  Zombie hunters Igor and Alen, and infected but still living Alexis, seek shelter with mad scientist Gyno.  In return for food and shelter, they scour the countryside for zombie candidates for Gyno's search for a cure, but there may be something more sinister to his experiments.  Music by Skinny Puppy's Justin Bennett and Bahntier's Stefano Rossello.
