Arrow Video exposes THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN (review)

A trio of teen troublemakers maneuver their way through sex, drugs, and first love in an effort not to be THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN.  This Cannon Films teen sex comedy is a remake of Boaz Davidson's own Israeli series THE LEMON POPSICLE and stars Diane Franklin (AMITYVILLE II: THE POSSESSION) and Lawrence Monoson (FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPER).

Grindhouse Releasing travels with AN AMERICAN HIPPIE IN ISRAEL (review)

Grindhouse Releasing is back and with their first Blu-ray release with the long-awaited availability of cult rarity AN AMERICAN HIPPIE IN ISRAEL.  A burnt-out Vietnam vet embraces the hippie lifestyle and bums around the world, but his efforts to attain total freedom are hindered by a pair of mysterious creeps who track his every movie.  When he arrives in Israel, he finds others like himself looking for a leader to show them how to live free and do their own thing.  Escaping to a remote island, the group celebrate their freedom only for things to start going wrong very quickly and turning deadly.

Young British immigrant Jack has been living in New York for seven years to look after his sister-in-law and niece after the sudden tragic death of his brother.  When his work visa is declined, his lawyer advises him to get married as soon as possible.  His "girlfriend" agrees to the arrangement, but soon after he meets the love of his life who asks him to make a difficult choice.

Second Run takes a voyage to end of the universe in IKARIE XB 1 (review)

In this Czech sci-fi masterpiece - based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem (author of SOLARIS adapted into film by both Andrei Tarkovsky and Steven Soderbergh) - a multi-national team of explorers board a vessel to explore the Alpha Centauri star system in a journey that will last fifteen Earth years while only twenty-eight months elapse in space.  As they venture further from Earth, the crew start to face both interpersonal problems as well as threats from seemingly alien forces and a mysterious dark star.  Released in a re-edited version by American International as VOYAGE TO THE END OF THE UNIVERSE, IKARIE XB-1 is presented here in its original, uncut Czech version with English subtitles in a gorgeous widescreen transfer.

Vinegar Syndrome satiates a BLOOD THIRST for THE THIRSTY DEAD (review)

In this double bill of films shot in the Philippines by American directors, blood cults terrorize tourists and the locals alike.  In BLOOD THIRST, a New York writer on sex crimes is called to Manila to investigate the murders of beautiful young women drained of all their blood.  In THE THIRSTY DEAD, young women are abducted by a mountain cult who must consume human blood to retain their eternal youth.  The prolific Vic Diaz appears in both.

Vinegar Syndrome packs a DEATH FORCE for some VAMPIRE HOOKERS (review)

Vinegar Syndrome brings fans a double bill of Filipino exploitation courtesy of the prolific Cirio H. Santiago.  In DEATH FORCE (also known as FIGHTING MAD and VENGEANCE IS MINE), three Vietnam Vets smuggle cocaine to China on the way home for a tidy sum.  When his two buddies double cross him, stab him, and dump him in the ocean for dead, Doug (James Iglehart) is rescued by a Japanese samurai who trains him for vengeance against his buddies who have become Los Angeles drug kingpins.  Leon Isaac Kennedy (PENITENTIARY), Vic Diaz, and Jayne Kennedy also star.  In VAMPIRE HOOKERS, sailors stationed in the Philippines hit it big with a trio of voluptuous hookers who have digs in the cemetery.  They soon discover that "blood isn't all they suck"!  John Carradine stars.

Scream Factory presents THE AMITYVILLE HORROR TRILOGY (review)

America's most stigmatized property is the showcase of Shout! Factory's first "Scream Factory" box set with THE AMITYVILLE HORROR TRILOGY.  In THE AMITYVILLE HORROR (1979), James Brolin and Margot Kidder play a young couple who move their family into a too-good-to-be-true house where the previous tenant murdered his entire family.  AMITYVILLE II: THE POSSESSION (1982) goes back in time to the house's previous tenants whose dysfunctional relationships were further fractured by a demonic force lurking within the house.  Burt Young, Rutanya Alda, James Olsen, Diane Franklin, and Andrew Prine star.  In AMITVYILLE 3-D (1983), a skeptic buys the infamous house cheap only to discover the evil is real (and this time it's three dimensional).  Tony Roberts, Tess Harper, Lori Loughlin, Candy Clark, and Meg Ryan star.

When his mother commits suicide and his older sister runs away with their life savings, immigrant Aleksandr finds him self on the dark side of male escorting and prostitution in a desperate attempt to survive.  Aleksandr tries to get away from the lifestyle, but his overwhelming loneliness and inability to forge meaningful relationships with people has him drifting into increasingly dangerous situations and losing his own grip on reality.

88 Films tells AMAZONIA: THE CATHERINE MILES STORY (review)

English schoolgirl Catherine Miles travels down tot he Amazon to spend the holidays on her parents' rubber plant.  On a birthday trip up the Amazon river, their boat is ambushed and her parents are killed.  Abducted by a headhunting tribe, Catherine plots her escape even as she is ritually initiated into the tribe and develops a murderous hunger for revenge against her parents murderers.  Released by Charles Band's Empire Pictures in the United States as WHITE SLAVE, 88 Films' disc presents the film in its original European version in an anamorphic widescreen transfer.

Jinga Films unleashes the SIMON RUMLEY TRILOGY (review)

British director Simon Rumley may be best known stateside for THE LIVING AND THE DEAD, RED, WHITE, AND BLUE and his entry in THE ABCS OF DEATH, but now Jinga Films brings his revolutionary first three films to DVD.  In STRONG LANGUAGE, sixteen young Londoners talk about everything from the club scene to Ecstasy to racism and AIDs while a narrator recounts a night of horror that changed his life forever.  THE TRUTH GAME is a comedy of bad manners in which an elegant dinner party quickly goes downhill with a series of revealed secrets, paranoia, inappropriate jokes, and bad behavior (and that's before they play "the truth fame").  Finally, in CLUB LE MONDE offers up a funny slice of life in a night of London's club scene.

Scream Factory is slashed by PSYCHO III (review)

"Norman Bates is back to normal. But mother's off her rocker again" in Anthony Perkins' directorial debut PSYCHO III.  Norman's got the motel running again and mother back in the upstairs window, when a drifter and an ex-nun (not to mention a whole gaggle of promiscuous homecoming revelers) upset the piece and unleash a bloodbath.  Anthony Perkins, Jeff Fahey, and Diana Scarwid star.

Scream Factory welcomes back Norman Bates in PSYCHO II (review)

Vinegar Syndrome sends THE DOLL SQUAD on MISSION: KILLFAST (review)

Director Ted V. Mikels is showcased in this double bill Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.  In THE DOLL SQUAD, a group of elite female agents hunt a master criminal who has already blown up a space shuttle when he doesn't get the the microfilm plans for anti-ballistic missiles.  Francine York, Anthony Eisley, and Michael Ansara star.  In MISSION: KILLFAST, Tiger Yang is recruited by the CIA to find a missing pair of nuclear detonators.  Jewel Shepard also stars.

Anchor Bay investigates THE DYATLOV PASS INCIDENT (review)

In CLIFFHANGER director Renny Harlin's stab at the "found footage" genre, a team of Oregon university filmmakers travel to Russia's Ural Mountains to investigate "The Dyatlov Pass Incident" in which a group of nine hikers died mysteriously in 1959 in on the "Mountain of the Dead" (with theories ranging from radiation poisoning to hypothermia to the Yeti or aliens).  The team of filmmakers of course ignore the bad omens and find themselves being stalked by someone or something.
